The Holiday Season is a wonderful time of year. Friends and families get together to celebrate and be thankful for one another. However, with the Holiday Season comes all those wonderful parties and yummy treats that can bring those extra added pounds. There are a few simple steps you can stick to that will help keep those extra pounds from adding up.
Tip #1: Be realistic, don't start a diet around the Holiday Season, instead focus on eating healthy foods and start going to the gym if you are not already on a workout program.
Tip#2: Don't skip meals and snacks, instead keep your meals and snacks in small portions and super healthy. This way when you hit those Holiday parties and you consume a bit to much you are not overloading on calories. Skipping meals can cause you to be overly hungry. When you go to those parties you will be starving and ravenous, eating everything in sight.
Tip #3: Workout consistently and as often as you can. Keep your focus on the cardio element of your workouts, however you must continue to keep resistance training in your workouts.
Tip #4: The day after a Holiday Party, if you have over consumed, focus on drinking lots of water and eat only fruit. Stay away from "heavy foods". You want your body to get rid of all the "bad stuff" accumulated the night before. Eat small, light meals for the rest of the day and eat lots of raw veggies to help your body get back the nutrients it needs.
Tip #5: The Holidays bring not only lots of food but sugary foods as well a fair amount of stress. This is a recipe for a poor, weak immune system and you may be more susceptible to getting a cold or flu. Try to manage your stress and work on getting foods high in antioxidants into your diet. Good examples of high antioxidant foods are, all kinds of berries; many different types of beans such as kidney, pinto and black beans; as well as apples.
These are a few easy tips to keep you healthy during the Holiday Season. Sticking to this plan is simple and realistic. It isn't hard to stay healthy during this time it just takes a bit more work and effort. Make sure to burn those extra calories off with some hard workouts and replenish with tons of water.
